We have welcomed the following faculty members during February – August 2017:

R AbeyratneProf. Rehan ABEYRATNE, Assistant Professor

Prof. Rehan ABEYRATNE received his B.A. (Political Science) from Brown University and his J.D. from Harvard Law School.  His main research and teaching interest is in comparative constitutional law, with a focus on South Asia.  Prior to CUHK, Prof. ABEYRATNE was a Scholar in Residence at New York University (NYU) School of Law and an Associate Professor of Law at Jindal Global Law School in Delhi, India.  He has also held visiting positions at Melbourne Law School and the National University of Singapore (NUS) Faculty of Law.


New Staff Jae Woon LeeProf. Jae Woon LEE, Assistant Professor

Prof. LEE is an aviation law and policy expert.  Having studied in Seoul (HUFS), Montreal (McGill), and Singapore (NUS), Prof. LEE has 7 years of work experience in the airline industry.  Since 2012, he has been advising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea on aviation law issues.  He has attended the UN’s International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Legal Committee as a legal advisor to the Korean delegation.  Prof. LEE has published many articles in international journals and his book (Regional Liberalization in International Air Transport: Towards Northeast Asian Open Skies) was published in 2016.


Prof. Chin Leng LIM, Choh-Ming Li Professor of LawNew Staff Chin Leng Lim

Prof. LIM was at Hong Kong University and once worked as a government treaty lawyer and at UNHQ, Geneva.  He has taught in Singapore, at Queen Mary, London and at Aberystwyth.  Outside the University, Prof. LIM sits on a trade and industry department committee and practises with a leading London commercial set.  His recent scribblings include “Worldwide Litigation over Foreign Sovereign Assets” 10 DRI 145 and “Britain’s ‘Treaty Rights’ in Hong Kong”, 131 LQR 348.  His books include Chan and Lim on the “Law of the Hong Kong Constitution” and his forthcoming Cambridge textbook, Lim, Ho & Paparinskis, “International Investment Law and Arbitration”, with a Foreword by Emmanuel Gaillard.


Michael MeissnerProf. Michael MEISSNER, Assistant Professor

Prof. MEISSNER’s research interests are in banking and finance law with a focus on international financial regulation and compliance.  He has over 18 years of experience as a finance lawyer and senior risk manager in banking.  In academia, he held guest lectureships at London Business School and at the University of St. Gallen.  Prof. MEISSNER holds a PhD in law magna cum laude from Saarland University, Germany and a Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).  He is admitted to the New York and Frankfurt, Germany bars.


New Staff Ryan MitchellProf. Ryan MITCHELL, Assistant Professor

Prof. MITCHELL received his J.D. from Harvard Law School and his Ph.D. in Law from Yale University.  His research focuses on state sovereignty, public international law, Chinese law, legal history, and legal theory.  His work on these topics has been published in journals including the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law, the Asian Journal of Law and Society, and the Harvard International Law Journal.  He is currently revising his Ph.D. dissertation, “Realism in China’s Reception and Contention of the Law of Nations” into a book manuscript.  Originally from Los Angeles, Prof. MITCHELL is a member of the State Bar of California.
